the cutest kids

My sister's kids are soooo stinkin' cute. Last night while I was hanging out with them I asked the kids what they wanted to be when they grew up. Their responses kinda give you and idea about their personalities. And each one is sooo cute!

Emory, the only boy and the oldest.
He said he wants to design video games, such a boy. :)

Faith wants to run an orphanage. Girl after my own heart!!!

Gia, the baby of the clan (ha!) wants to be a mermaid. Too adorable!!!

I honestly love my time with these kids. They make my heart happy. :)
Comments like these remind me of how much I do adore kids. I really picked the right professions (youth pastor AND elementary teacher!)

Do you have any funny or sweet kid stories?? I know a lot of yall are parents, so I would LOVE to hear any stories you have to share!!!

guilty pleasure Wednesday (v.1)

The first installment of "guilty pleasure Wednesday"!! I think this is the post I've been most looking forward to starting. :) I'm not entirely sure why, since these posts are mainly going to consist of sharing embarassing things about myself.... however maybe it's that I feel like I'm being more myself in being able to let all my blogger friends know what a HUGE dork I can be. ha! So feel free to share yours, agree with mine, or disagree. But **WARNING** while I totally am cool with teasing, anything that is negative will be deleted. I try very hard to keep my blog a positive place and while I love interacting with those of yall that read my blog, I don't want negativity to find a home here.

With that long and winded explaination... here is the first guilty pleasure I'm admitting to:

watching The Bachelor on Monday nights!!

My old roommie/bestie and I use to watch it together everyone Monday night. For awhile we had stopped watching it, but for some reason this past Monday, I just had to watch it! The boy and a good friend ended up watching it with me (I think mostly because I allowed them to poke fun at it). Let's be honest, that's the best way to watch it! Who doesn't like watching and making fun of girls who become so obssesed over a guy they only just met an hour prior? The fact that the bachelor is hottttt doesn't hurt either (and secretly I think the boys watch it to drool slightly over the pretty girls.) ;)

Well, there you have it. My first guilty pleasure blogged about for all to see.

Any others out there that secretly (or not so secretly) sneak in this show too??

fact tuesday (v.1)

If I'm going to be honest, I have to admit that I have been thinking of what to write for this post all day. I kept thinking of little funny or cutesy things I could share about myself and then thought, "really, who would want to read this??"
Then I started thinking about my notebook of lists... I love it. It has random lists in it, with tabs (made from mini post-its). I try to carry it everywhere so that I can always add to my current lists or make new ones. It's probably a little weird, but I just am that much of an organization freak. I think that for future posts, I'll probably share some things from it, but I figured sharing that I have such a notebook to begin with is probably enough to share for one post.... just so yall dont think I'm too ocd or anything. However, I will share my lists....get ready!!

my lists:
-things i love
-things to look up (most likely online)
-things to get or buy
-random facts about me (which I will most likely end up sharing in my tuesday posts!)
- things that make me happy
- songs I need to get my hands on!
- things to try (starbucks drinks, new foods, etc)
- photoshoot ideas
- quotes my friends say that i want to add to our quote book (yup, i actually have made 3 books full of quotes from my friends, its soo great when i need to cheer myself up!)
- bible verses i love and stick out to me
- book quotes that stick out or that i really love
- attributes that i want my "perfect" guy to have
- my beliefs
- things to do/places to visit
- things my dream house would have
- my bucket list, list of goals for the coming year, and sometimes my goals for the current month
- things i want to change about myself
- my guilty pleasures

Well there you have it.

Do you make any fun/interesting/random lists?? Please share!!

muchmuch love,
kel

5 loves on monday (v.1)

As promised, here's a list of 5 things I love (to help stay positive on a not-so-awesome day (monday!!!)

1. these flats from Urban Outfitters

2. mary jane socks (perfect for being sooo cold)

3. journaling ( i just need to do it more)

found at weheartit.com

4. white roses.
typically, im not a flower person. for holidays like valentines day or date nights, i prefer something that has to do with food (especially chocolate); however, i do love white roses. i think it's cause for my 15th birthday (and the last birthday i got to spend with my dad) he bought me a bunch of white roses.

5. cherry blossoms. i wish i could plant one of these trees in my front yard... boo.

found on weheartit.com
In other news, yesterday was my first day on the job as the new youth pastor! I was extremely nervous, but it went soooo well. Thank you everyone for your kind words and encouragement, I cannot tell you how much it means to me. :)

blogging ideas

One of my new years resolutions (which I still need to post....oops) is to blog more. I've come to really enjoy it and have found that it has truly helped me grow as a person (as silly as that may sound to some). I feel that being given an outlet such as this to share my thoughts, ideas, feelings, and important parts of my life that I have become more optimistic in making sure I dwell mostly on the positive things. It also has allowed me to learn and express who I am and who I am becoming. Making blogger friends has therefore been icing on the cake. :)

So, in order to keep myself somewhat accountable for blogging more frequently, I'm creating theme days! Mondays are "5 loves on Monday", which I started awhile back after reading Elsie Flanning's "Ten things I heart Sunday" posts, but have kinda out on the back burner, "fact Tuesday", which to me sounds like phat Tuesday....hmm...., and "guilty pleasure Wednesday" where I will confess things such as the fact that I still listen to (and secretly still love) the Spice Girls. However, you must promise not to poke too much fun at these crazy Wednesday secrets!!

Here's a sneak.....

...I'm excited.... :)

happy news!!!

So as of last night, it is official, I was hired (for my 2nd job)!!!
I am now a youth pastor at a local church. :)

My bestie has been the youth pastor there for the past 6 months, but when she moved away they needed someone else. I never in a million years would consider myself for the position, but since I had helped out chaperoning and the kids know me (and the pastor has known me since I was in 1st grade) they asked me. And suprisingly I said yes. I didn't think I would ever be cut out for this, nor would I want to do it, but when they asked all I could feel was excitement. I think partly I'm looking forward to it because it's similar to teaching, which I am itching to start. I get to create and teach lessons, I get to decorate a youth room, and I get to be with some amazing kids every Sunday. :) My heart is full and happy!

I start this Sunday, so I have about 3 days to come up with a lesson, but my pastor has helped me greatly and I have a bunch of material from high school when I was a co-leader in a bible styudy group, so I'm not too, too worried. Although if any of yall have some advice on fun games to play with some high schoolers, that would be awesome! Please share!!!

I'm really looking forward to this new chapter. Thanks for letting me share with yall!

happy 101 award

This award is for all the ladies in the blogging community that bring a smile to your face. So...along with this award I am to list 10 things that make me HAPPY and pass the award on to 10 ladies that make me smile.

Amber gave me this (via her wonderful blog). Thank you Amber, it put a huge smile on my face!!!
Here are my 10 things (and I have to admit, listing only 10 things was a little difficult):

1. pandas-
I still want one as a pet, although in knowing how much money they would cost me in bamboo, I'm sure I'm better off without one. But they are still sooooo cute

images found via weheartit.com

2. my friends and family-
without them i would be forever lost.

3. polaroids
especially polaroid walls like this one
source

4. dresses
can't wait for spring when I can start wearing them again!!!

found at modcloth.com

5. blogging
Starting out I didn't know how into it I'd get, or if I'd even like it, but now I seem to be hooked (and a little addicted). And I love how many people I've met through it! Now we need to meet in RL!!! :)

6. cupcakes.
they are my weakness, well, one of

7. Starbucks
i'm addicted. i have so many favorites, but i think my comfort drinks are usually boil down to:
-cinnamon dolce frap
-chai tea latte with soy and 1 pump vanilla
-white chocolate mocha latte
-iced caramel macchiato
YUMMMMM

found at weheartit.com

8. reading
i absolutely love finding a new and wonderully inspiring book. i keep adding to my new years resolutions each year to read more, and so far i've accomplished it. even though i have about 20 books i want to read and are waiting for me to pick up, i seem to continue to buy new ones and add to my list. but one day i hope to complete them all.
here are some of my latest favorites (and if you haven't read them, i highly reccommend you do so!!!!!)

9. listening to new music that inspires me
sometimes its hard for me to get inspired to be crafty, but new music always helps.
here are the bands and artists that have lately been inspiring me like crazy:
-empire of the sun
-passion pit
-florence and the machine
-she and him
-postal service
-regina spektor
-ben folds
-jukebox the ghost
-yeah, yeah, yeahs

10. God. the most important one of course (daving the best for last)!!!!!
It's odd, even after growing up in the church and being a believer, I sometimes feel odd about writing on my blog about my faith. I shouldn't, especially because I am not ashamed. I think it boils down to being afraid of causing some sort of debate or argument. That shouldn't matter and I apologize for not writing more about myself and my faith, 2010 will turn that around, I promise. With that said, I honestly owe who I am to God. I've gone through a lot of rough times (haven't we all?!?!?) but without him I would be lost, depressed, and just completely in shambles. Knowing Him has saved me more than I could ever express. :)

So there you have it, my 10 loves (or 10 of my manyyyy loves)!
Now to pass on the award. :) There are so many amazing and wonderful women I've encountered through my blog and I love you all for constantly sharing your world and letting me play a small part in it. So, the ladies that bring a smile to my face:
1. Leigh @ http://signonawindow.blogspot.com/
2. Jessica @ http://cupcakesothersweetthings.blogspot.com/
3. allison @ http://abiteofallison.blogspot.com/
4. danielle @ http://www.sometimessweet.blogspot.com/
5. alexa @ http://curlywiggles.blogspot.com/
6. lindsay @ http://bearypixie.blogspot.com/
7. megan @ http://nerd-nest.blogspot.com/
8. margot @ http://www.icedgrandesoylatte.blogspot.com/
9. erin @ http://erinsunday.wordpress.com/
10. and of course the lovely Amber who tagged me first!!! you can find her at: http://www.avocado-owlet.blogspot.com/

Don't forget to post a link in the comment section when you've completed your list. I wanna see!!!!!

a little update

I feel like so much is going on right now. I honestly thought that after January 1, 2010 things would start to slow down....wrong again. There are so many things to accomplish on my "to do" list and so many changes happening right now, which explains why I have been infrequent in my posting. I want to do better in 2010 though. In fact I have a TON of goals. I'll try to share those later....

So here is the little update on my life:
- my new roommate is moving in today. i'm pretty excited (and nervous since my last roomie was my bff and roomie for the past 4 years...) but he seems awesome. he already brought me a roommate gift (coffee and a surfing shirt from Costa Rica!!!!) can you say awesome?

- a second job seems to be opening up for me. i can't go into detail about it now, since it's not completely official yet, but when it is, i'll be spilling all the details. i'm really looking forward to this!! and no this does not mean i will be quitting my job at the law firm, i'll just have 2 now.

-i'm not taking any classes this semester. it was a difficult decision to make, and i probably will regret it some, but i need the break. i'm hoping that the one class i have left to take will be available in the summer and i can then intern in the Fall of 2010. we'll see about that one though.

I feel like so many things are changing right now and I need to make some goals for myself to keeep myself on track. I do this every year and while it seems like a lot of people now-a-days don't seem to care about making New Years resolutions, I still love it. I also make monthly goals for myself and sometimes weekly ones, just to keep myself focused and busy. I hate having nothing to do....

So what are your New Years resolutions??? Please share, I love hearing other people's goals!

a ton of love, kel
