lamp inspiration

Last year I bought 2 lamps at a garage sale with the purpose of using them in my classroom. However, they were ugly and I decided that I needed to do something to revamp them before putting them up in my room. Weeks went by, then months and I had some ideas, but just nothing I really wanted in mind still. Those stupid lamps are finally in my classroom this year, but they still are not restyled. Nope- they are just as is in my room.

So I decided that I needed to do some inspiration research to try and find cute ideas to steal. The thing is, I'm not sure how much time and money I want to invest in these. Or even what style to go with.

But here is what I've come across so far..... any suggestions???

So I was stumbling upon this blog that lists over 100 craft and DIY blogs to follow, when I came across this lady's blog and I swooned.  Quick and easy projects that are so cute I can't wait to try!! (Or at least put them on my "to-do" list in hopes of one day achieving them!

These have become some of my favorite posts, as silly as that may sound. But I love finding such great things online and sharing them (and storing them where I can go back again and again) has been fun.

pinterest project #1

One of my "25 before 26" goals was to create 5 things from pinterest. I figured that this would be a good way to actually get crafty instead of just "pinning" pictures. 

For the first "pinterest" project I decided to make a jewelry holder, which I found here.

 Like any girl, I had some already, but I felt like they weren't adequate and they also seemed to hide what I had, meaning that I often times forgot about them. This idea (which paired well with the framing my necklaces) seemed to be the perfect solution and even saved space).

 

Making it was super easy too!

I bought a large plate (pizza size), bowl (smaller), and a candle stick. I also needed glue (I used "Dots" which are really used to easily adhere pictures to paper) and paint. 

 First, paint.

Then once it dries put glue on either side of the candlestick and attach it to the large plate (bottom) and bowl (or smaller plate) on the top.

Let dry.

Add your jewelry!

 

Volia! 

I put braclets and watches on the top, earrings with hooks on the edges, and rings, necklace pendants small earrings, and broaches on the bottom. 

Now I can see everything and I can more easily pick what I want to wear from day to day.

Valentines use to be one of my least favorite holidays; however, I honestly love the hallmark holiday now. I think its mainly because I get to spend it with kids and there is something about seeing how happy they get with gifts that makes it awesome.

Welcome back Monday. While I may not be your biggest fan, today I won't mind you as much because you bring Monday night football to my hometown (yup- the Jags have a game tonight and I will be there)!

thanksgiving crafts & treats

When I'm not working at the law office (yes, again), I get to work with kids. Pretty amazing, since that's what i actually went to school for.
Yesterday was a half day at our school so in the afternoon I got to hang out with some pretty awesome 2nd and 3rd grade girls. Normally it's not the age range I work with, but yesterday it turned out perfectly because I had tons of crafts and treats I wanted to do with the kids and they turned out to be my perfect audience!


Our crafts:

the tutorial for our turkeys above was found here (and also pinterest)

we also played som Thanksgiving bingo (with candy and cookies as prizes...as if they needed more sugar). The game was created by some awesome craft ladies, and you can find it on their blog. (I stumbled on it from pinterest too).

Then, before oure movie, we made these adorable acorn cookies. The kids were skeptical of making cookies at first, but once they realized there was no baking and it involved hersey kisses, they were totally up for it. They made tons too! The how-to was found on this lovely lady's blog (and you can add the pin to your pinterest from here too).

Happy Labor Day weekend!! I'm so glad I had a 4 day weekend (okay, the first 2 days I was sick) but at least I got to enjoy the time off with friends and finally feel better.
