30 days of june...half way there.

A couple of weeks ago I made my own 30 days of June list. Since the end is slowly (or not so slowly) creeping up, I figured I might as well start tracking how I've done so far with my goals.

So things I've done so far.....
1. clean my classroom
2. have a girls weekend vacation
5. do something special to celebrate mine and Steven's anniversary
7. organize my classroom (however, looks like it will be moving anyway....)
8.  finish at least 1 book (2 actually!!)
9. sleep in some
10. stay up late
11. help plan a birthday party
16. clean up our home more (still working on this, but at least I started!!)
17. go to the pool and get some sun!
18. find my zip drive
21.keep up with my 5 year Q&A book (so far, so good)
22. start getting in shape
24. go a day without soda
25. start a new book
26. take pictures (Keag's birthday!!)
27. relax
28. enjoy the beginning of my summer

Not too bad. Especially for me!

Have you made a summer goal list? What's on yours?

30 days of June

So one of my favorite bloggers wrote a post recently that really inspired me. Of course, it's not exactly the same as hers, because while she is planning on doing one thing each day, I can't commit to that. So what I will say is that my list of 30 things to do in June may happen sporadically, but I am a-okay with that.

So here are the 30 things I want to do in June:
1. clean my classroom
2. have a girls weekend vacation
3. finish Chloe's training (and feel like it was money well spent)
4. celebrate some friends birthdays (i think there's 4 in all)
5. do something special to celebrate mine and Steven's anniversary
6. so something a little special to say goodbye to my kidos
7. organize my classroom
8.  finish at least 1 book
9. sleep in some
10. stay up late
11. help plan a birthday party
12. write a kickass maid of honor speech
13. be a better friend
14. be a better daughter
15. take Chloe to the dog park (at least once)
16. clean up our home more
17. go to the pool and get some sun!
18. find my zip drive (ekkk)
19. get a message
20. wash my car
21.keep up with my 5 year Q&A book
22. start getting in shape
23. try a new food
24. go a day without soda
25. start a new book
26. take pictures
27. relax
28. enjoy the beginning of my summer
29. help my friend out with her wedding
30. get a pedicure

What would your list look like?

365 project take 2

So another year, another go at trying this whole 365 project. Last year I got half way through the year (which actually kinda surprised me....I didn't think I'd even be able to make it that far). This year I'm shooting for the entire year. While I know it's a lofty project, I'm trying to make it as simple as possible on myself. My idea/goal: to try and capture me or something I'm doing that day. It should be easy enough since I'm heavily depending on my iphone too. Granted I would love to take more actual camera shots, but I know I won't be able to every day. So instead, I'm trying to when I can and other days simply using my phone to capture my "everyday moments". I think it'll be fun to look back on. I know I enjoy looking back on last years.
So here is the first 9 days worth.

Most of them are posted on my instagram as well (kelzify).

2013 goals

I made a list of 4(well, er.....actually 7 goals). I'm just hoping that I actually keep them this year. Last year I somehow managed to only keep one. I've done a lot better on my birthday goals surprisingly though. I think its because I always have so many to make for my birthday so I try to make them more fun, but the resolutions for each new year I make more broad and create fewer.

So my goals:
1. try the 365 project again.
Last year I tried and only made it half way through. Although that is better than I thought I would
    go.
2. document each day.
I want to write down highlights each day in a journal. I think it'd be really awesome to see what I
was doing that exact day a year before (you know when I look back in 2014).
3. save money.
I've had this as a goal several times, but there are a few differences this time. First of all the last
time I made this goal was when I started actually saving. Now that I have a bit of savings, I want to
keep saving, with a number goal in mind. With so many things I want for the somewhat near
future, I need some money to do it, and how else will I get it unless I save?
4. Read at least 25 books.
Last year my goal was 15 and I read over 30, so really 25 (especially with a free summer) shouldn't
     be too hard.
The extra goals: get fit for Erica's wedding. Complete all my birthday goals.

Can't wait.

pinterest project #1

One of my "25 before 26" goals was to create 5 things from pinterest. I figured that this would be a good way to actually get crafty instead of just "pinning" pictures.

For the first "pinterest" project I decided to make a jewelry holder, which I found here.
Like any girl, I had some already, but I felt like they weren't adequate and they also seemed to hide what I had, meaning that I often times forgot about them. This idea (which paired well with the framing my necklaces) seemed to be the perfect solution and even saved space).

Making it was super easy too!
I bought a large plate (pizza size), bowl (smaller), and a candle stick. I also needed glue (I used "Dots" which are really used to easily adhere pictures to paper) and paint.

 First, paint.
Then once it dries put glue on either side of the candlestick and attach it to the large plate (bottom) and bowl (or smaller plate) on the top.
Let dry.
Add your jewelry!

Volia!
I put braclets and watches on the top, earrings with hooks on the edges, and rings, necklace pendants small earrings, and broaches on the bottom.
Now I can see everything and I can more easily pick what I want to wear from day to day.

If you make one, please share pictures, I would love to see your take!!!

restaurant #3 (and a lot of rambling about bubble tea)

So remember those "Stellie points"??
(A/K/A Steven and Kellie's guide to fine dining in Jacksonville).
                                                                       Too much?

Last night Steven and I tried a new place down the road, Bowl of Pho. Never personally having had Vietnamese or Pho, I was excited. The place was actually really cute and what totally made my night was that they offered bubble tea!!
(Nerd moment......).
So a couple of years ago I caught onto this bubble tea phenomenon and decided I had to try it. I'm not really a big fan of tea, but I was hoping this would change things. So I went online and looked up places that offered bubble tea. There were only 3 places in Florida and one was 6 hours away, but happened to be my hometown. So a few months later when I travelled home to Pensacola for the holidays, I went on my search for this new craze. Of course, by the time I got my entire family there to try this amazing new delight, I found out it had closed. Talk about major let down.
So then, a couple years later.....bubble tea is everywhere. And I mean everywhere. Maybe this was a lesson in patience, I don't know.

But last night, I got my fill of bubble tea for the week. And I was ecstatic.
Oh and it was also cool that we got to try a new place. I feel like this 25 before 26 goal is helping Steven and I to be a bit more adventurous as a couple. At least when it comes to food.

And the Stellie combined point for this new place? 7.05 (you know, in case you were wondering).

stellie

We're a very ambitious couple.
For real.
We spent Saturday night dancing the night away (in Steven and Kellie fashion....which others might deem "embarrassing", but we see as fun/entertaining). Hey- we even got our picture taken (see above).
Sunday we made a "fort of sorts" in the living room and watched tv all day on an air mattress. That was also the day we decided we should start rating movies. The new Rogers and Ebert if you will. Only our rating system will be called "stellie points". (Which is also the name of our restaurant rating system...see below).
Again, we are very ambitious.
Steven agreed to help and this past weekend he sweetly offered to take me to a new place. We chose Big Dawgs (which is the 2nd new restaurant on my goal list so far). Then he had a brilliant idea to rate the new restaurants so we'd know if we ever wanted to go back.
So the "Stellie" point system began.
(By the way, Big Dawgs (in case you were wondering) got a 5.2 combined score from us).

Other than making crazy/awesome career choices this weekend, we also got to hang out with Steven's sister and boyfriend, who were here for a day or two. I'm pretty sure this weekend would count as one of the best in a long time. And I needed it. We caught up, ate and drank too much, danced, ordered late night food, watched tons of tv and movies and just had an amazing time.

25 before 26

Last year I made my "24 before 25" list.
Looking back on what I accomplished from this list, I only got about half of them done. Which kind of  disappointing because the year before I didn't accompish all my goals either. So this year, I put some of them back on in hopes of this year getting them marked off.
The ones I did do: travel to a new place (Tampa, FL), finish the Kellie and Steven year 1 minibook, go on at least 1 photoshoot (i did 2), go on a bike ride in riverside, make a minibook out of paintchips, have a picnic in the park, let go of grudges (still working on this, but I've come a long way), declutter home, save monet, finish Lost seasons, bike more, and fingerpaint.

Now for this year's list...... my 25 before 26 list:
As you can tell, most of my goals are oriented around the numbers 5 and 25. I thought it would make it funny and more fun this year.
And I already started....last night I went to a new exercise class with a work friend. I loved it too, can't wait to go back tomorrow!!

52 lists in 52 weeks// week 43

Last year for my birthday I made my annual goal list (24 before 25). I made some loftly goals, but one of them included decluttering my home.

This week I started reading The Happiness Project. I'm only a few chapters in (and am already in love with it), but one of her chapters talks about decluttering her home. In fact, it helped improve her happiness.

So I got to thinking.....even though I've started decluttering, I honestly have barely touched the surface. Now is the perfect time to start. And trust me, Steven agrees. One problem with our living situation is that this has been my home for over 5 years and his for only 1. I've had it decorated the way I've wanted and let's face it, since I'm a control freak, I've kept the apartment pretty much the same. Granted, I did try to get rid of girly stuff (like flowers and posters), but it still looks my place, not ours.

So I went on pinterest. I searched for organizing and decluttering tips. I checked out tons of photos. And books. And websites. And lists.

What I came up with was that this is do-able. I just need to do it. I need to organize my organizing plan and slowly get to it. One task at a time.

The result of all this research are all of these links below (and my own personal organization goal list).

Psst..... have you figured out what the weekly list is??

list 43: What's on your declutter list?

This modern lady blogs all about being a "woman with a plan and routine". She gives tips to her system and how she made it work. It's not just on organizing your home either, but rather organizing your entire life. It gave me a lot of good ideas!

Want a declutter calendar that sends you tips everyday on things you can do to help your system work better? She has a blog too.

There are also some awesome looking books on decluttering that I found on amazon. You can see them here and here.

Then there's "project simplify". Her blog feature lasted for 5 weeks and gives photos and tips. She breaks it down into rooms and "hot spots". It's seriously inspiring.

And lastly, the 21 day challenge. This blogger divides each day into specific spots to clean out and organize, which makes it all a little easier and do-able.

So here's my decluttering list:
1. finish cleaning out the garage.

2. clean out my closet (again).
Like Gretchen mentions, sometimes you need to go back to a place you already cleared and decluttered and see what you might have either overlooked or changed your mind about.

3. work on the bedroom.

4. work on the living room and dining room.
I'm combining these spaces only because they flow into each other and are small since we live in a condo

5. work on the kitchen.

6. combine some things from the house in storage containers in the garage.

7. work on the storage unit outside our condo.
This area is really small, so it ended up being the home of unwanted things that ought to just be thrown away. So no time like the present.

8. take unwanted things to be donated.
Sounds like a duh thing, but honestly there's a point to it, 2 actually. One is that so often I put things in a pile to be donated, but it takes forever to get there, so hopefully this will speed up the process. Two, it's nice to add easy to do and check off items to my to-do lists. That way I don't have a ton of items that take lots of time and energy. I feel more accomplished if there are some I can check off quite easily (especially at the end).

9. something to remember during the whole project: it's okay for the place to look bare.
Maybe this sounds silly, but to me it's something I battle with.
Steven prefers clean, spacious and almost bare looking.
I've always lived in a home where the walls were covered with paintings, and there wasn't a lot of bare space. It also didn't help that when my mom's parents and brother died, we inherited all of their things (including antiques that we didn't have the heart to discard). Because of that, I've always decorated my place likewise. Cluttered. If a wall didn't have a poster or painting, it looked weird and naked. If a drawer or shelf didn't have anything on it, it was awkward looking and needed to be changed.
So I'm trying to change that idea. I'm trying to be okay with bare and uncluttered, because I think it will make me feel less stressed and happier. And I know that's how it will make Steven feel.

10. try new organization idea and techniques. (because i can't leave my list at just 9.....)
something that works better than what I have now.

What does your list look like???

52 lists in 52 weeks// week 36

I know it's the 5th day of February, but since it's the first day back to the real world for me (of this month) I figured now would be the perfect time to write out my goals for the month. The truth is, I have so much to do this month.
Here are my goals:

2012// goal 2

Goal 2 was written simply: document the year. To some this might seem a little too vague and in need of explanation. For me, it's the perfect summary. I usually hate vague, but for my goals this year, I felt it fit perfectly. This way, I can break it down in numerous ways.

So document the year..... I've already started in tons of ways.

1. a minibook.
After always seeing the cute minis on one of my favorite blogs, I decided that this year, I would try my own version (again). I had tried before in numerous ways (sketch a day, picture a day, journal entry a day) and none of them stuck. But Elise seemed to have a different approach. Don't do it every day, but document the large things, the good things. So I sat down and created a mini in which to document the big things.

2. journaling.
I use to journal like it was my job. Perhaps, it's because it was back in high school before I got a job... But nonetheless, I loved it. I know that it's a big commitment, but I am going to try journaling everyday for an entire year. They won't necessarily be large entries, but it will be something for me to look back on. And the best part is it will between myself and the pages only. So I cna be completely open.

3. 365 project.
I feel like this was more of a fad a couple of years ago. And I did try to do it then, but it was before I had a digital camera and before I had an iphone....both of which make this project a lot easier. (A lot of these photos are on instagram, so feel free to follow me to see the pics I'm making.... username: kelzify).

4. I even signed up for a journaling all year (52 ideas) class (which most of you have probably heard of).
Since I want to journal more and I have created the cute little (or not so little) mini, I decided that this little journal class would not only be fun, but a good way to broaden my journaling abilities. Plus, who doesn't get stuck and need some inspiration? I'm really excited to start and then add the pretty pages to my 2012 minibook!!

-kellie

Committed

This year, one of my many goals was to read at least 15 books. The first book to add to that list, is Committed. Last year, I read Eat, Pray, Love (same author) which I totally fell in love with. The same friend that lent me that book also let me borrow this one, so I happily set forth in doing so.

Now here's the truth (my truth) about the book.....Perhaps I had grand expectations for it since the first was so good (and I therefore assumed the follow up would be close if not better), but my expectations fell flat. Although I did get some good lessons and laughs from this book, it won't exactly go down as one of my favorites.

However, here are some awesome parts of the book that I did enjoy. And don't worry- no spoilers.....

1. The name. My sister and I had a good laugh over this. Perhaps Elizabeth Gilbert meant to do this (if you read this book, or even the summary, you'll know that she's not the fondest of the insutuion). However, my sister and I did enjoy the play on words.

2. Some of her facts and quotes were awesome. My favorite: "Plant an expectation, reap a dissapointment". Not to say you should never have expectations, but rather you should be careful what they are. Afterall, people are people, not our Savior, not our end-all-be-alls.

I agree.

And after looking up some photos, I stumbled upon this.....

Elizabeth Gilbert and her hubby, themselves.
Too cute.

Has anyone else read this book? If so, I'd honestly love to hear your opinion!

Happy New Year all!!

I can't believe it's 2012. I actually had put together goals (yea, cause apparently 1 resolution isn't enough for me) awhile ago, but my internet had other plans. Anyway... here are my resolutions, the first list of 2012 and list 31 in the series.

What are your resolutions?!?

2011 goals update

Recently I've been working on my goals mini book. The dweeb in me wanted to see what I had done and what I had yet to do. Plus the mini book needed to be organized a little bit too. The book is divided up into (soon-to-be) 3 sections: 2011 goals, 24 before 25 goals, and 2012 goals. I like trying to have all of these in one place.

Here's how I fared with my 2011 goals:

1. travel more. (i suppose I did this by going to a few new places like Key West...but not as much as I had hoped).

2. be better at remembering birthdays. (i tried really hard to remember birthdays and send out cards in advance. i think i kinda did this one half-way.)

3. go to the gym more. (okay, I really failed this one. i'm pretty sure i went 30 days total of the entire year...if that. shame on me.)

4. read at least 10 books that are school unrelated. (score one for me. i read 18. go me!)

5. graduate college. (score 2 for me.)

And stay tuned for my goals for 2012!!!

never a better time

If you know me at all, you know that I rarely go to the gym. I wouldn't say that I despise it, but it's definitely not my favorite thing. Although, every once and a while I try to force myself into going.
Tonight though, I've made the executive decision to start going back. And not just every once and awhile, but frequently. And I started tonight.
I didn't stay for a long period of time, but long enough for the first night.
This muffin top has got to go ,

recently read books

I made a goal for myself to try and read 10 books before the end of 2011. I actually just completed this goal (6 months early too!!) I have to say, I love that I have gotten back into reading as much. I also love that I have a ton more books waiting to be read (which is what prompted Week 5's list).
I thought I might share with yall the recent books I've been flipping through. And if you've read any of them, or have any suggestions, please feel free to comment!!

1. Under a Cruel Star by Heda Margolius Kovaly

I actually had wanted to read this book for a while. It was an assigned book for a history class I wanted to take a few years back, but while shopping at a local book store for used books, I stumbled upon it again and had to get it.
This book was pretty good. It is centered around a women during World War 2 as she searches for freedom, while being hunted for her religion. The book goes beyond WWII though and also talks heavily about her life, her husbands, and her sons during the Cold War under Communist reign. Her accounts are not very detailed, because she is writing after several decades of the incidents; however, she does share a lot of her experiences during a long time period and gets very real.
A great read for history lovers.

2.Surviving the Angel of Death by Eva Mozes Kor and L.R. Buccieri

Another great read if you like learning more about WWII and the Holocaust. It's very sad and tragic, but it is another look at the Holocaust through the eyes of a young child and her twin. The story tells of how life in concentration camps was for she and her sister, living as experiments for the evil Dr. Mengele. A definite tear jerker, but so honest and a true must read!

3. Persuasion by Jane Austen

This one I read with a pen pal/blogger pal of mine. I love Jane Austen books, but had yet to read this one. Truthfully, while I did enjoy it overall, it felt a lot like her other books- same basic story and basic characters. However, the love letter between the two main characters at the end of the story is one of the sweetest things I have ever read. Ever. I think I reread it a million times over and each time it was just as romantic.
If you love Jane Austen books, this is a must read. Just keep in mind that it will be very similar to her others (most notably for me, Pride and Prejudice).

4. In My Hands by Irene Gut Opdyke and Jennifer Armstrong

I borrowed this book from a friend of mine who also loves WWII type books. It's a very unique look of the war. The story is based on a young girl who becomes a nurse and is separated from her family while WWII breaks out, trying to first get back to her family and then to solely survive , her journey leads to an interesting destination. She ends up working for Nazis as a server and house servant, but then learns about the close ghetto jailing Jews. She quickly starts helping and even housing the hunted Jews.
This was a remarkable story and I loved it. Reading about her and her friends strength and courage gave me restored faith in humanity.

5. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

I borrowed this book from my sister who loved it. With the movie coming out, I decided to go ahead and read it before seeing it on the big screen (I prefer reading the books first and seeing the movies last). The book had more of an interesting plot than I anticipated, but I still wasn't fully in love with it. I tried, but this just wasn't one of my favorites. Even still, I read the entire thing (because I despise not finishing books). My honest opinion would be to skip it and see the movie...the movie actually (in my opinion) does a better job at telling the story than the actual book.

6. Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler

I should first mention that I don't particularly like Chelsea Handler. She's a litte crude for my taste; however I surprisingly wanted to read her books, including this one (especially because as a kid I read Judy Blume's Are You There God, It's Me Margaret). The book was just like her....random, crude, and yet still funny. Some parts I wish I could have skipped, some seemed to bizarre to be real, and some were so hysterical my ribs hurt from laughing.
While this isn't a book I'd but on my top 10 of favorites, it was a funny (and quick) read. I honestly would suggest it as a summer fun read.

7. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Steig Larsson

The third book of the series, and perhaps one of the best! I loved, loved, LOVED this book. It was extremely long, but I read it quickly because I couldn't put it down. It has more politics in it than the first two, but it nicely puts a nice to end to everything. This trilogy has made Larsson one of my all-time favorite authors. I just hate he is no longer alive to write more.

8. The 5 Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman

I was almost embarrassed to admit that I read this one.... Truth is, at first I thought it would be the stupidest thing I ever spent time on. True, my mom and other ladies of the church have liked it and sworn by it, but I didn't think it would be my thing. While it's not the best book I have ever read, it had some really thoughtful and great points. I feel like after reading this book I know more about my and my significant other and our needs. I would really suggest this book (especially if you are a Christian, since it talks largely about Christ's part in our life and discusses Bible topics).

9. I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max

To start with, I should admit I broke my rule here....I saw the movie first. I wasn't sure I would like the book, but the movie included Logan from Gilmore Girls (seen above) so I had to give it a shot. While it was insanely crude and made me blush just watching it, it was also extremely funny. I then decided to try it out on my new kindle. While the book is even more inappropriate and ridiculous, I enjoyed it for the most part. The talk of sex and drinking makes this book closely rated to X, but if you enjoy that type of humor (or are unphased by it) I'd suggest giving it a shot.
The main idea of the book is a series of short stories based on the craziness that he calls life while taking advantage of easy women and drinking until he can't even see. Definitely different from what I've read before.....
(But try the movie too....cause that was great!)

10. A Million Miles in A Thousand Years by Donald Miller

My all-time favorite author and his most recent book....how could this book not be awesome? As always, after reading a Donald Miller book, I felt completely rejuvenated and inspired. His books (including this one) are so honest and you feel more like you're having a conversation with this 30-something-year-old Portland guy than just reading a book about him. I would highly suggest this book!!! (And for that matter any other book he has written).
The book's main focus is on story- what makes a story and what makes a story good, then applying it to life. Donald Miller does an awesome job of answering all of these and makes you feel like all is possible.

24 before 25

Since my birthday is drawing near, I started thinking about my to-dos and goals. Then I remembered that last year around this time, I made this list:

I'm almost ashamed of showing last years goals, because I achieved so few of them. (7 actually) But I decided to instead, make another one for this year and try harder to accomplish them all.
So this year's goal list:

Have yall ever made any of these? I'm a total list maker and feel in love with them when I first saw them mentioned here and here and here. I really suggest you make one too! And please share!

much love,
Kellie

(my list in no particular order):
1. sleep in

4. go to the gym or bike
5. catch up on my netflix

7. whiten teeth
