2012// goal 2

Goal 2 was written simply: document the year. To some this might seem a little too vague and in need of explanation. For me, it's the perfect summary. I usually hate vague, but for my goals this year, I felt it fit perfectly. This way, I can break it down in numerous ways.

So document the year..... I've already started in tons of ways.

1. a minibook.
After always seeing the cute minis on one of my favorite blogs, I decided that this year, I would try my own version (again). I had tried before in numerous ways (sketch a day, picture a day, journal entry a day) and none of them stuck. But Elise seemed to have a different approach. Don't do it every day, but document the large things, the good things. So I sat down and created a mini in which to document the big things.

2. journaling.
I use to journal like it was my job. Perhaps, it's because it was back in high school before I got a job... But nonetheless, I loved it. I know that it's a big commitment, but I am going to try journaling everyday for an entire year. They won't necessarily be large entries, but it will be something for me to look back on. And the best part is it will between myself and the pages only. So I cna be completely open.

3. 365 project.
I feel like this was more of a fad a couple of years ago. And I did try to do it then, but it was before I had a digital camera and before I had an iphone....both of which make this project a lot easier. (A lot of these photos are on instagram, so feel free to follow me to see the pics I'm making.... username: kelzify).

4. I even signed up for a journaling all year (52 ideas) class (which most of you have probably heard of).
Since I want to journal more and I have created the cute little (or not so little) mini, I decided that this little journal class would not only be fun, but a good way to broaden my journaling abilities. Plus, who doesn't get stuck and need some inspiration? I'm really excited to start and then add the pretty pages to my 2012 minibook!!

Committed

This year, one of my many goals was to read at least 15 books. The first book to add to that list, is Committed. Last year, I read Eat, Pray, Love (same author) which I totally fell in love with. The same friend that lent me that book also let me borrow this one, so I happily set forth in doing so.

Now here's the truth (my truth) about the book.....Perhaps I had grand expectations for it since the first was so good (and I therefore assumed the follow up would be close if not better), but my expectations fell flat. Although I did get some good lessons and laughs from this book, it won't exactly go down as one of my favorites.

However, here are some awesome parts of the book that I did enjoy. And don't worry- no spoilers.....

1. The name. My sister and I had a good laugh over this. Perhaps Elizabeth Gilbert meant to do this (if you read this book, or even the summary, you'll know that she's not the fondest of the insutuion). However, my sister and I did enjoy the play on words.

2. Some of her facts and quotes were awesome. My favorite: "Plant an expectation, reap a dissapointment". Not to say you should never have expectations, but rather you should be careful what they are. Afterall, people are people, not our Savior, not our end-all-be-alls.

I agree.

And after looking up some photos, I stumbled upon this.....

Elizabeth Gilbert and her hubby, themselves.
Too cute.

Has anyone else read this book? If so, I'd honestly love to hear your opinion!

52 lists in 52 weeks// week 32

I'll just go ahead and say it...I use to have a huge problem with being alone. Sometimes I still dislike it, but since I've grown up (some) and I spend so much of my time surrounded by people, I thoroughly enjoy my alone time now. But it wasn't always like that.

When I think about it now, it's silly. There are so many things that we have to do alone....like go to the bathroom, go to the doctor, surgery, sometimes shopping, sleeping, sometimes driving, etc. So why is it that it seems so daunting to some (including past me)?

Instead of trying to dissect this, because that's probably something way too involved and would probably make anyone who reads this blog (including myself) want to stop (again, including myself). So instead, I decided to take another approach. Why not make a positive list of fun things that include being by yourself?? Besides being more optimistic, this (I think, at least) be a fun way to make a list to carry out. Things to do all by myself. A list that I need to keep close and remember to do every once and awhile to keep myself refreshed and happy.

List 32: Fun things to do by yourself.
ride your bike
take yourself to lunch
craft
read
go to the gym
go to the bookstore or library and find something new
go for a walk
color
go out for coffee and people watch
shop (window or actual)
cook a new meal
watch a movie (either out or at home in your pjs)
go out for a drink
color
paint
go to the park (hang out, play a game solo, people watch, feed the birds, climb a tree...)
go on a drive and get lost

And watch this video, because it's amazing and you'll be glad you did.

Your turn. Can't wait to see everyone else's lists!

52 lists in 52 weeks// week 31

Happy New Year all!!

I can't believe it's 2012. I actually had put together goals (yea, cause apparently 1 resolution isn't enough for me) awhile ago, but my internet had other plans. Anyway... here are my resolutions, the first list of 2012 and list 31 in the series.

What are your resolutions?!?

2011 (year in review)

It's been quite a year. But it's been an overall good one. I only hope that 2012 is even better!
Here are some highlights of my year.

January: I started my internship, which took a lot out of me, and rang in the year 2011 with Steven, friends, and my sister.

February: Steven and I went bowling and watched lots of Lost.

April: Steven and I celebrated St. Pattys Day, went to Key West (my first time), Steven moved in, and I had a kitten for the day.

April: I had my last day of interning (which was bitter sweet), graduated college (finally), lost my dog, Coco, and had a garage/bake sale with some friends.

May: I turned 24, made some goals to achieve before I turn 25, went to NYC with my mom (partly for work and partly for fun), met a blogger pal in real life, and had lots of friend time.

June: Steven and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary, I got to kitty sit and kiddy sit, Steven got a promotion, and we spent a lot of time at the pool.

July: Steven and I had a Harry Potter Weekend of Wizardry marathon and I finally became a huge Potter fan.

August: I finally got a job in the teaching field. I got hired on the spot and I have loved my job ever since that first day. And my mom finally got married.

September: We celebrated my amazing boyfriend's birthday and welcomed Fall (finally).

October: Such a great and fun-filled month. So much happened, including mine and Steven's annual pumpkin picking/carving night, fright night, lots of halloween baking, and one awesome halloween dinner at our friends.

November: My mom, step-dad and I traveled to my hometown (Pensacola) to see friends and spend the holiday weekend. I finally got to see my friends' new baby girl too. It was such a great long weekend. Plus I got to meet more of Steven's family at his mom's wedding!

December: I created a new kind of advent calendar. The boyfriend, roommate and I spent the whole month doing fun Christmas/holiday filled activities. Such as making a gingerbread house, decorating the apartment, listening to lots of music, and throwing an ugly christmas sweater party.

And here's 2010 in review.
Happy New Year!!

In my quest for finding amazing fashion to inspire me (and help my drab sense of style vanish) I kept coming across these 2 blogs. Apparently I'm not the only person who thinks these two gals rock....

2011 goals update

Recently I've been working on my goals mini book. The dweeb in me wanted to see what I had done and what I had yet to do. Plus the mini book needed to be organized a little bit too. The book is divided up into (soon-to-be) 3 sections: 2011 goals, 24 before 25 goals, and 2012 goals. I like trying to have all of these in one place.

Here's how I fared with my 2011 goals:

1. travel more. (i suppose I did this by going to a few new places like Key West...but not as much as I had hoped).

2. be better at remembering birthdays. (i tried really hard to remember birthdays and send out cards in advance. i think i kinda did this one half-way.)

3. go to the gym more. (okay, I really failed this one. i'm pretty sure i went 30 days total of the entire year...if that. shame on me.)

4. read at least 10 books that are school unrelated. (score one for me. i read 18. go me!)

5. graduate college. (score 2 for me.)

And stay tuned for my goals for 2012!!!
