My awesome pal Rikki made and sent me a mix cd not too long ago and one of the bands on there I just cannot get enough of.... Handsome Furs.
Sooooooooo good. If you haven't heard of them, you're truly missing out. And thanks Rikki for the awesome intro to an amazing band :)

5 loves on monday

While I usually have a major case of the Mondays, I've actually been looking forward to this particular monday for a while..... Today my awesome bestie comes into town (and it's the last time I'll see her before she moves to England for mission work) and my handsome boyfriend is coming back home today too! I'm so excited I could explode!

& now 5 friggin' sweet things that I've fallen in love with and will hopefully put a smile on your face too!!!!

1. this wedding website.

confession: i've been planning my "perfect wedding" since i was 5. perhaps its silly, but even still i loooove looking at wedding sites and photos. while i use to daydream of weddings when i was younger because i couldn't wait for the day prince charming showed up, i think it's now just morphed into appreciating how beautiful weddings are. i crave inspiration, creativity, and originality so these photos and websites just feed into that. and okay, maybe part of me is still hoping for that dream wedding one day....

with these adorable rings (and other cute jewelry as well!)

3. these adorable cupcake monsters. sooooooooo cute- i want one so badly!

4. these prints from this awesome etsy shop

5. this cute cupcake tattoo!

Name: Erin -- aka Erin B. Inspired.

Favorite craft or hobby.
I've really gotten into paper crafts lately, namely cards. They're pretty easy but yet there is so much you can do with them!

What's next for you?
Well, I start back to school in a few weeks to get my teaching certification. I'm pretty stoked (and I NEVER thought I'd say that about going back to school). I hope to ultimately teach high school literature but I'll probably start in middle school, maybe 8th grade.

5 things that make you happy!
1 - My dogs. It's impossible to be sad when they're around!
2 - Taking photos. I can't say that I'm really good but I love going on mini photoshoots.
3 - Social networking. I know that sounds pretty silly but I love communicating with people and being social. Sometimes I feel like the friends I never met but socialize with on social networking sites are better friends than my real friends!
4 - My boyfriend. J and I have been through a couple of rough patches but when I look at him I can't help by smile. He is so good to me. :)
5 - Finding great pieces at thrift stores, on Craigs List, or otherwise. I've gotten really into vintage and unique pieces. I got my craft desk on Craigs List and painted it Smurf blue. Talk about inspiration!

Where do you find inspiration?
Since I've been into card crafting lately, I browse a lot of card crafting and supply sites for ideas. One of my favorite card crafters is Kristina Werner (kwernerdesign.com). She features videos twice a week of card making tutorials. It's a great place to start to get ideas. Also, Two Peas In A Bucket (twopeasinabucket.com) is a great place to go for supplies and ideas.

How do you get and stay motivated?
I stay motivated by doing a little at a time. I often find myself wanting to spend hours upon hours in my craft room making cards but after a while I lose creativity so I step back and pick back up at a later time.

Where's once place you would LOVE to travel if you could?
This answer is always easy for me because I've had a fascination with Italy since my sophomore year of college. I love the language and the culture. I would love to go and browse the museums and architecture.

Random fact about me:
I'm a natural strawberry blond but I've had blond, brunette, red, and purple hair. It's bleach blond right now. I've only had one dye job that I loathed and that was dark brunette with blond highlights. I looked like a skunk!

Wednesday Wishes

This week I'm a bit sad for Wednesday to be here. I just got home from my trip (awesome yes, but I was away from the bf for awhile) and now he is leaving for a trip. I know it's totally silly and girly, but I honestly love hanging out with him, so I'm really going to be missing him. However, I've also made some extreme goals for myself this week. There are so many things I want to accomplish that I haven't and so this week/weekend is when I'm going to start being harder on myself to get them done. Especially because my two besties come into town next Monday!!!! I want my place looking great by then so we can hang out and relax. It will also be the last time I get to see my bestest friend in the entire world for a year!!! (She's moving to England in a few weeks). Yay for her, but I'm a bit sad of seeing her go. I suck at goodbyes.

Anywho, my list of what I'm hoping, praying and wishing will get done this week:
1. finally take a bunch of stuff collecting dust in my garage to the thrift store
2. clean my bathroom (my least favorite chore, but it's gotta get done!) hmm... maybe I cant wish for a cleaning fairy to take care of all of this for me?? yes?
3. finish decorating my patio (and take before and after photos)
4. photoshoot with my friend sarah
5. catch up on art journaling (cause I may just be the biggest slacker)
6. prepare for Sunday (BIG day- I'm bringing breakfast for church and then I have a youth beach day for my kids planned. ekkk I'm excited about it, but a little overwhelmed with myself signing up for so much in one day!)

Now go check out Liz's, Erin's, Karlie's, Courtney's, and Katie's wishlists. :)
looooove,
kel
***PS. please keep my youth kids in your prayers- a couple of them are having a really rough time right now and could use all the prayers, kind thoughts, and sweet wishes they can get!

home again and awesome treats

A couple weeks ago in one of my "5 things I love monday" post I mentioned these adorable postcards from the lovely Becky at Strumpets Crumpets. When I got home from my vacation this weekend, I found a pretty package from her, with the postcards and iphone paper pad I had been drooling over (plus a few other cute items that are to die for). What a sweetheart! Suffice to say Becky, you totally made my day.
If you want your own....check them out at her lovely shop.

I also came home to a bunch of pen pal letters, netflix movies, and the new anthro catalog! I think I'm set for the next week. :)

I think it's time that I also FINALLY share with you my living room decor. I changed it up for Spring (yes I realize how long ago that was) but I decided to keep them up. When I first moved into my place I tried to make the living room like a movie theatre- so the colors were red, black and yellow (a bit depressing I know, but it worked!) However lately I've needed a change- so the new colors are pink, white and yellow (as you can tell!) I really like it and I also got some ideas from the lovely Elsie and Promise as well as some help from my friend Erica (who helped me paint the album covers) and my amazing boyfriend (who hung the albums for me). :)

What do you think???

family time in alabama

This past weekend was amazing. It was everything I needed and more and it was long overdue.

While I won't get into too much detail, I feel that this weekend was so wonderful that it needs to be shared; however, really personal issues will be kept under wraps. I guess I'm giving the "reader's digest version". :)
I haven't really talked to or seen my family in Alabama for about 9 or 10 years- since my dad passed away. There were family issues and for whatever reason we just went this whole time without really talking, which was such an adjustment since I saw them every year for Thanksgiving beforehand. There was a lot of hurt and pain that we all had to work through, but finally we were all able to get to a place of forgiveness. I remember the day I forgave them and myself for all that had happened....I was a freshman in college and at church when I jut realized not forgiving them was hurting me and keeping me from being close to those love so much. Of course it wasn't easy for any of us (obviously, since forgiving took place 4 years ago.....) but I think we all had things to work through first (part of the healing and forgivness process if you will). But this past weekend my sister and I finally made plans to visit. The moment I walked in the door I felt at home. It was almost as if we were just picking up where we had left off. It felt absolutely amazing to be surrounded by so many loving and wonderful people for that short amount of time. I could be 100% myself and not worry about being judged or loved less- something that I have come to miss in Jax the past few years. But I digress..... In short, reconnecting with my family was by far one of the best things I've ever done. I'm only sad that I missed out on 10 years with them, but here's to hoping the next 10 well make up for it! :)

And of course, my sis and I took pictures :)

okay- i looove this photo. my family and i have such a morbid sense of humor- so they thought this photo was jsut hysterical. no my uncle is NOT graverobbing-we planted a flower bush between my dad's grave and my memaw's grave

my wonderful family :)

and of course we had TONS of wonderful food. i think i might have gained like 20 pounds.
and it was all wonderful southern food :)
ham
cabbage
peach cobbler
egg custard
krispy kreme
fried chicken
biscuits
figs and fig preserve
fried green tomatoes

and thanks to my lovely sister and some starbucks, we got there and back all in one piece! :)

(more photos from the trip on my flickr account, fyi)!!
much love,
kel
