one tiny "no" 55 years ago...

It's crazy to think that 55 years ago today, one woman said no to the simple act of moving to a different seat on a city bus and from that our nation changed.

One woman. One response. One unwillingness to be treated as unimportant. And one nation was never again the same.


It really makes me think (and perhaps even over-analyze) about my own decisions and choices in life. One thing can change so much and in this case, thank goodness. Thank you, to all of you out there that are like Rosa Parks and have stood up for your beliefs. Thank you to all of you out there that have in the past refused to give up hope, worked for a better tomorrow, and continued to try and make this world a better place.

My freshman year in college I took an Introduction to Teaching class. One day, we had a speaker come in to talk to us. These are typically skipping days, since honestly what are we going to learn in class anyway? Lucky for me, I went and I'm so glad I did. The speaker turned out to be a gentleman that worked as Rosa Park's body guard in her older age. The way he talked about her gentleness and humbleness was inspiring and you can tell that he had great respect for this lady, who by the way never lived in wealth, even in her dying days. I guess things like that just didn't matter to her. Maybe I'm just a big baby, but by the end of his talk I teared up. What an amazing lady.
If only this world had more Rosa Parks.
